La chevaleresque · J. F. Burgmüller, Op. 100 No. 25

Song No. 37 · pp. 162–163 · Allegro marziale · C major · 4/4

The coach listens through your microphone and names every note you play. Nothing is recorded or sent anywhere — the sound is analysed on this device only.

How to use this at the piano
  1. Prop the tablet or phone on the music desk, close to the piano strings — about an arm's length from the keys works well.
  2. Tap “Enable microphone” and allow access. The coach needs to hear the piano clearly; a quiet room makes detection much more reliable.
  3. Test it: play middle C. The bar above should name the note and the tuning needle should sit near the centre.
  4. In Practice mode the coach waits for you. It only moves on when it hears the right note or chord — play one step at a time, and let each note ring clearly.
  5. No microphone? Every exercise and the note trainer also work by tapping the on-screen piano.

Learn the piece in steps

Each exercise is a small piece of La chevaleresque, exactly as it builds up in the score — right hand, left hand, hands together, the triplets, and the coda scale. Pick one to begin.

Step 1 of 1
Choose “Start listening”, then play the highlighted notes. The coach waits for you — there is no clock.

Note-reading trainer

A note appears on the staff. Play it on the real piano — the coach is listening — or tap the on-screen piano. Reading the note is the answer.

Press “New note”, read the note on the staff, and play it.

The map of the staff

Every note lives on a line or in a space. Learn these four sentences and you can work out any note on the page.

Treble clef — lines (bottom to top)

Every Good Boy Does Fine

Lines: E · G · B · D · F

Treble clef — spaces

The spaces spell FACE

Spaces: F · A · C · E

Bass clef — lines (bottom to top)

Good Boys Do Fine Always

Lines: G · B · D · F · A

Bass clef — spaces

All Cows Eat Grass

Spaces: A · C · E · G

Middle C sits on its own little ledger line between the two staves — one line below the treble staff, one line above the bass staff. Notes climb line–space–line–space, so a note one step above a line is always the next letter name.

Free play — the coach just listens

Play anything. Every note you play is named and placed on the staff, and chords are recognised as you build them.

Progress & weak spots

Saved on this device between visits. Weak notes are the pitches he has missed most — a few minutes on those in the trainer moves them fastest.

This week

No finished sessions yet this week. Sessions appear here when he taps “Finish practice” at the end of a sitting.

Notes that need work

No weak notes yet — notes appear here once they have been attempted a few times.

The piano — play the real one and watch the keys move, or tap, drag and use your computer keys here

On a computer: the bottom letter row (Z X C…) plays from C3, the top letter row (Q W E…) from C4, with the keys above them as the black keys. In “Watch me first” demos the keys press themselves and show the fingering from the printed score.
